Lunch
Please let us know in advance if your group would like a space for eating lunch. You will be given a timed slot in an indoor space. If the weather is good you are welcome to use the outdoor picnic area. Please don't eat or drink in the museum or Carriage Works buildings. This is to help us with the conversation of our historic collections.

Workplace Visit to Hopetown
- Cost: Free
- Age: KS3/4/5
- Length of visit: Allow an hour, but groups are welcome to stay longer.
We offer visits to Hopetown Darlington for groups of students to find out about careers at our site on a workplace visit. Our Learning and Access Officer will give a brief introduction to Hopetown and key job roles before you and your group explore the site. Students are encouraged to speak to staff they meet as they look round.
We have a limited number of work experience places each year, so this visit is a great way to help students find out more about a workplace. Booking is advised to ensure the Learning and Access Officer is available. If you would like your group to stay for lunch and need an indoor lunch space, please ask on booking.

We take a playful approach to exploring North Road Station Museum and taking the train. We want to encourage lots of speaking and listening.
Darlington in the Time of Dickens
We look at Darlington in the 19th century, with a focus on public health and sanitation, the workhouse, education, railways and Charles Dickens’ use of railways.
Build It! Bridges and Structures
Work in small teams with a kit of parts and complete several building challenges. Each team has the same kit and a limited time to build. How well can they work together?
Solve It! Forensic Science - Whose Suitcase?
A suitcase has been discovered in the Museum Store. Clues have been found that point to six suspects who used to work for the railway in the past. Solve the puzzle!
