Pit Lane Walks
Join us for a fascinating walk in a railway engineering pit!
You'll see the locomotive Tornado from a perspective few ever experience... from (nearly*) underneath!
Discover the hidden world below the footplate to gain an understanding of gleaming motion, powerful rods, pipes, springs and craftmanship normally concealed from view.
Our colleagues at Darlington Locomotive Works will bring the engineering to life as you stand where few have stood before.
This is your chance to go behind the scenes and into the heart of steam engineering.
Limited places available, booking is essential. Please gather inside the Darlington Locomotive Works' workshop 10 minutes before your pit walk is due to start.
*Due to the health and safety and the oily and dirty environment of Tornado, our colleagues are unable to take you underneath Tornado itself but they will take you as close as possible for you to get a good look.
