Station Garden Volunteers
Then Hopetown Darlington is looking for you!
Run in conjunction with the Stockton and Darlington Railway 26 miles Team from summer 2025 to summer 2027, Station Garden volunteers will play an important part of planting and maintaining the Sensory Station Garden and some of the other flowerbeds around Hopetown Darlington.
Volunteers will need to have:
- basic garden knowledge
- to be in reasonable fitness
- to be friendly and approachable when chatting to our visitors
- be able to give 2 hours a month to support the garden
Part-uniform, tools and refreshments will be provided.
Volunteer sessions are initially fortnightly on a Thursday morning from August until November 2025, with a view to extending this into 2026.
Two information sessions are taking place on Thursday 31 July at 10.30am and at 1pm at Hopetown Darlington.
Good to know
All Volunteers will need to undergo some site based training and be taken through the Health and Safety risk assessment documents before they can volunteer with the S&DR26 miles and Hopetown team.
A Curator's Tour of the site will be organised in September, but no knowledge of Railway History or Hopetown is necessary as training on the site will be given.
All Volunteering Sessions will be held during Museum opening times, and as such applicants will need to be friendly and approachable as they will engage with visitors to Hopetown directly and indirectly each time.
We have a flexible approach and will make reasonable adjustments as much as possible to accommodate applicants needs. Volunteer can provide support for both short and long term time commitments .e.g. if only during school term time or only when schools are closed for holidays.
Any volunteers under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by another adult of over 18 whilst volunteering at any point due to project policy.
