S&DR 26miles Heritage Project

A local project promoting, exploring & celebrating 200 years of local railway history

The Stockton and Darlington Railway 26 miles Heritage Project, (S&DR 26 miles), is a National Heritage Lottery Funded project working to promote, explore and celebrate 200 years of railway history.

The S&DR 26 miles project is partnered with three museum sites along the original line – Locomotion, Hopetown Darlington and Preston Park Museum & Grounds – and working alongside the S&DR200 Festival and The Friends of the Stockton and Darlington Railway.

The project runs until 2027, with the aim to engage local communities, organisations and schools with free craft activities, event days, work placements, workshops, volunteering and much more. With over 200 years of history, the project is exploring our past, celebrating our heritage and looking to our future.

S&DR 26 miles, in partnership with Tees Valley Museum Group, runs S&DR Young Producers at Hopetown Darlington – an opportunity for 16-24 year olds to experience the heritage industry, create their own content and exhibitions and take part in work placements!

S&DR 26 miles hosts regular free craft events at Hopetown Darlington, and along the S&DR line – find out more by following S&DR26miles on Facebook or Instagram!

Please note: S&DR 26miles is not the S&DR200 Festival – our project and events are not connected to the S&DR200 festival, unless specifically stated.

S&DR26 Miles is funded by The National Heritage Lottery Fund.
